Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had met earlier in the afternoon with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Brussels for about 20 minutes on the sidelines of the European People's Party meeting.

According to initial information, Samaras developed the Greek positions on the state of the economy and stressed that Greece feels vindicated in achieving the targeted primary surplus.

Approaching the Summit in Brussels, the Greek premier said: "We are here to talk about the digital economy, banking consolidation, growth and job creation, especially for youth employment. But we are also here to find a solution to an acute and long-standing problem faced primarily by the southern Mediterranean countries and that is the illegal migration. We have set many targets and we move forward."

Antonis Samaras is accompanied by Simos Kedikoglou, Yannis Vroutsis, Yannis Stournaras and Michalis Chryssochoidis.
