Troika insists on "instantaneous" layoffs of 2,000 employees

The issue of redundancies in the public sector is a problem in negotiating with the lenders

The lenders do not accept removals of contracted public servants as layoffs - The Administrative Reform Council is meeting today under the Greek Prime Minister

The issue of redundancies in the public sector is a problem in negotiating with the lenders. Despite redundancies and the closing of departments and agencies, Troika insists on its attitude and refuses the compromising proposals of the Greek government.

The Greek government also proposed the removal of contracted public servants, however, Greece’s lenders do not seem to be convinced, as the Ethnos newspaper reports, since they feel that these there are not layoffs. So Troika asks for the removal of 2,000 public employees by the end of 2013.

Meanwhile, Troika seems to also respond negatively, at least for now, to the issue of extending the redundancy program until next February. But this "no" will mean double trouble as Troika insists in the layoffs of public employees.

The issues of redundancy, mobility and evaluation of bodies in the public sector are expected to be the focus at the government's Council for Administrative Reform, which is meeting today at 13:30, chaired by PM Antonis Samaras.
