14,000 employees leave with early retirement and compensation

The acquisition of up to three plasmatic years for those employees close to retirement should be a key incentive for voluntary departures from several bodies of the wider public sector. According to the final agreement with troika the ministry of Administrative Reform anticipates 14,000 withdrawals in the public sector that will come from civil servants who will take advantage of this incentive.

These public employees, together with those evaluated and decided to be removed from the public sector will come from four tanks that are not related to the narrow public sector and are the following:

-       private-sector bodies, which are not viable, like some utilities or municipal enterprises. The employees that will be laid off will receive the compensation provided by law

-       organizations that will be merged. Employees who serve on them will be transferred or retire voluntarily with the motive of acquiring three pensionable years

-       disciplinary councils will decide on the permanent cessation of public servants. Under the new legislation, the cases of employees who face penalty of permanent cessation will be considered by the First Instance Disciplinary Board and the Council of State

-       a number of employees who have been suspended after the assessment of structures of their institutions who might want to make use of the acquisition of three pensionable years.
