Juncker: War threat in the Eurozone is real
Former eurogroup president and Luxembourg prime minister believes that the Eurozone crisis could lead to a future war in the old continent
Former eurogroup president and Luxembourg prime minister believes that the Eurozone crisis could lead to a future war in the old continent.
In an interview in today’s Der Spiegel, Juncker speaks about the current situation in the Eurozone and the associated risks, and believes there is a possibility of dangerous escalation of recent conflicts.
"Anyone who believes that the eternal question of war and peace in Europe is not valid anymore can be grievously mistaken. The demons are not gone, just sleeping, as demonstrated by the war in Kosovo and Bosnia."
Juncker referred to Greece as well saying that the way in which some of the German politicians attacked the country when it entered the crisis has left deep wounds.
However, the former Eurogroup head describes the launched reforms in the Eurozone as a one-way street, even though they are highly unpopular, and notes that no one is allowed to follow the wrong policy for fear of not being re-elected.
Finally, he says he will support Angela Merkel in her election race in Germany. "They asked me for it and I have already said I will do it," he says.
