One woman dead and 23 injured, 4 of whom are in serious condition, is the tragic outcome of two large 28-car pileups that occurred shortly after 9 am on the Egnatia highway, near Klidi, Imathia, when a truck driver lost control of his vehicle, which consequently overturned.
According to recent data, 20 vehicles were involved in the first pileup, both trucks and cars. Among the injured are 3 children and all were transported to hospitals in Veria and Thessaloniki.
8 vehicles were involved in the second pileup only a few meters away from the first one, and 2 people were injured.
Among those injured is a pregnant woman from Ptolemaida, which was aboard the EKAV ambulance that was involved in the pile-up. The woman, who is in her 34th week of pregnancy, is in good condition and went through all the necessary examinations in Thessaloniki. She will remain hospitalised for monitoring to prevent any chances of premature labor.
10 EKAV ambulances rushed immediately to the scene of he accident to carry the injured and were followed by Fire Brigade trucks.
The route to Thessaloniki is closed off for the time being. Traffic police officers are diverting vehicles from the Alexandria intersection to the old highway. Hellenic Police has warned drivers to be very careful after these accidents due to dense fog.
