Shortly before the vote in parliament on the recommendation for a preliminary committee, a wild clash erupted between SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras and PASOK president Evangelos Venizelos.
Venizelos spoke of revisionist forces and SYRIZA efforts aimed against PASOK. "You're not interested in the truth and want to turn it into a lever of political conspiracy," he said addressing Tsipras.
He defended his taking the USB stick with the Lagarde list with him upon leaving the Finance ministry and also said he took defensive plans of the country along when leaving the ministry of Defence. He added that Tsipras’ signature will be required for the disbursement of the next loan tranche.
On the podium, Tsipras stressed that "the sacred sacrosanct links the accounts and the skeletons lurking in the closets. And you are anxious about being exposed, gentlemen of the government. These are the skeletons of an endless series of scandals, with concealment and impunity as the common denominators."
He also stated that he does not connect the parliamentary vote to the government’s existence and that the offense of concealment lies heavily upon Venizelos.
In his reply, Venizelos accused SYRIZA of bringing the country to the edge of a civil war and criticized the main opposition party for being possessed by a total lack of institutional sensitivity.
Tsipras said he will not sign for the next tranche, because those who sign are on the lists of Siemens and Lagarde.
Venizelos said that SYRIZA has irrepressible professional slanderers and spoke of the epitome of political degradation.
Finally, Tsipras told Venizelos that he exceeded the self-incrimination limitss and reached those of self-ridicule.
