Papakonstantinou’s referral in three votes and seven polls

 

On Wednesday evening, and after many consultations, the majority (ND, PASOK, DIMAR) decided that the process should be carried out in one sitting with 3 separate votes - one for each proposal - and a total of 7 polls.

 

Which means that after the discussion there will be a vote on the proposal of the majority (ND, PASOK and DIMAR) with one ballot for Yorgos Papakonstantinou, followed by the counting and the announcement of the result, which will be followed by a vote on the proposal by SYRIZA.

 

In this case there will be 2 polls for the nominees for a preliminary committee referral (Papakonstantinou and Venizelos). At the end this will be followed by the proposal of the Independent Greeks and the Golden Dawn with 4 polls (Papakonstantinou, Venizelos, Papandreou and Papademos).

 

The participation of MPs in all 3 votes is not mandatory, but New Democracy says "we will participate to the end. There is no question of withdrawal."

 

In line with the programming, the process will begin at 10 am and the voting is expected at 6 pm.

The substance was lost during the procedural discussions

 

Prior to this decision, government and opposition engaged in a series of political machinations, interpreting the Greek Constitution and the parliamentary Standing Orders as they pleased.

 

This resulted in limiting the discussion to the process, to increasing or decreasing the number of ballot boxes and votes, and losing the actual substance which is appointing blame where blame is due. Everything indicates that the process will monopolize tomorrow's debate as well.

 

This is also suggested in SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras' statements that "it is inconceivable that this was decided in the meeting of the three political leaders. The smooth functioning of parliament is being hampered and essentially we have a procedure that removes the secrecy of the vote. This has never been done in the Greek parliament, and it reveals panic. Venizelos is incriminating himself by asking Samaras for such protection. But at the same time he becomes the former's hostage."

 

Venizelos insists that "the perpetrator of this conspiracy against PASOK" is the main opposition party. The Independent Greeks, the Communist Party and Golden Dawn insist on 4 polls, that is as many as the persons they wish to be referred to a preliminary committee.
