Two hooded men with Kalashnikovs shot at the ND offices

Security cameras show two hooded men armed with Kalashnikovs getting off a car and after walking 50 meters, stopping and from a 70-meter distance shooting at the neon sign of the New Democracy offices.

But the moment of the shooting has not been recorded and officials cannot tell whether both perpetrators shot with Kalashnikovs or if it was only one of them. This will be revealed by the ballistic examination, the results of which are expected within the day.

Based on the images recorded by both ND offices and Traffic Police cameras, the perpetrators were in a private car, probably the burnt-outr Toyota Corolla found in Paleo Faliro, which was driven by a third person. More emphasis is placed on eyewitness testimony that speaks of a car in which the perpetrators were riding and not of a motorcycle. And they knew about the existence of many cameras so they made sure to have their features well covered.

Meanwhile, the burnt car found in Paleo Faliro is being thoroughly examined. While the inside of the vehicle is completely destroyed by the fire, police are trying to locate fingerprints or DNA from the offenders.

They are also dusting off all cases of organizations that had Kalashnikovs in their arsenal. Apart from the Revolutionary Struggle, which was dismantled, such weapons were used by the organization called “OPLA - Group Proletarian People's Self-Defense”, which attacked the police station in Agia Paraskevi in 2009, and by the Sect of Revolutionaries, who murdered journalist Sokratis Giolias. This does not mean anything as a Kalashnikov can be easily found, especially in Greece, and almost anyone can get it.

Police appeal

In an attempt to gather evidence, Greek Police made an appeal to people who might have seen or heard anything to call and provide them with their information. The Hellenic Police’s announcement states that «regarding the shooting at the headquarters of New Democracy, we kindly urge any citizen that knows or has seen anything in the area of the incident (Syggrou Avenue, Amphitheas Bridge, Doiranis etc) as well as in the wider Paleo Faliro region, such as a Toyota Corolla car of gray-anthracite color which was found burnt on Solomou 40 & Socrates, to contact these phone numbers: 170, 1014 and 1964, of the Directorate of Special Crimes of Violence (D.A.E.E.V). Anonymity and confidentiality of communication are completely ensured. Please note that the shooting incident took place at about 3 in the morning today, while the fire in the car broke out a little later, around 3.10.»
