Tsipras: Samaras must lead the country to elections
Alexis Tsipras took one more step today Sunday towards SYRIZA’s demand for early elections; while attacking the government, he said "the only service you can now offer to Greece and to democracy is not to accept the non-solution that was offered by the Eurogroup and pave the way for our people to provide the solution with their verdict."

Tsipras urged the government to lead the country to elections smoothly "so that we can take responsibility and protect what you could not and did not want to protect."

As for internal party matters, things were stirred up by Tsipras’ decision not to accept his appointment in the new leading body, the Central Committee (75% will be elected and 25% appointed), but to claim the vote of the representatives.

The SYRIZA leader expressed complete satisfaction with the dialogue that took place during the 3-day meeting of the Panhellenic Conference, stressing that they have now created a new body.

Voicing his confidence that the decisions of the Eurogroup cannot get the country out of the crisis, Tsipras said that very soon this government will be faced with the pressure to bring new measures. And it will do so, because the only thing it cares about is favoring its lenders and remaining hooked on power, like it did in the past, each time stating it would be the last. He added that "this will be its final act, because our people are not going to remain apathetic when faced with this attempt towards extermination. Nor will we."

He defended pluralism within SYRIZA; however, he asked both his own party, SYNASPISMOS, and all the other trends "to leave behind the mechanistic views of correlations which do not create a framework of pluralism, but an image of Babylon. The new single body will be pluralistic."

As for his role, Tsipras said it is not to "impose or suppress attitudes or habits of the past", but to create new models for the future. This is why "I decided, for symbolic reasons, to lay the foundations of the creation of a new model. Not to use my direct election to the new central committee, but to reapply for a new election. To be judged as an equal member among all the other comrades."

Tsipras concluded that "I want this to be a message of fairness, democracy, revocability, unity, determination to change based on the will of the many. SYRIZA is you and you will be the judge and decide on everything and everyone."

SYRIZA has changed

The proceedings of the three-day SYRIZA Conference concluded on Sunday afternoon. SYRIZA EKM became one single party after the passing of the relevant declaration by the group of members participating in the process.

The weekend, however, was not quite calm in the Peace and Friendship Stadium. During the Conference, the presence of Panagiotis Lafazanis’ Left Stream was intense, as they disagreed with the manifesto proposed by the leadership of the party and asked for an addition which would emphasize that the choice of Greece to stay in to the euro should not be "at all costs." The proposal was rejected; however, the Left Stream recorded its remarkable dynamic within SYRIZA.
