Apotheosis in Barcelona for Tsipras

Alexis Tsipras was received like a star and addressed simply by his first name at the campaign rally of the Spanish United Left in Barcelona. "Greece's problems are our problems as well. I want to give many thanks to Alexis who gave hope to Europe. Alexis, the podium is yours", left wing party candidate in the Catalan elections Joan Herrera said, welcoming the SYRIZA president.

Amid constant interruptions due to warm applause and having the person responsible for international relations in Syriza, Kostas Isihos, as his interpreter, Tsipras launched a new offensive against the Troika, the memorandum and Angela Merkel, thus exciting the audience.

He stressed that a global economic war is unfolding, which the Left must win in favor of the forces of labour. He added that behind the memorandum policies there are huge economic interests, such as those of bankers, the finance capital and big business, who want to invest in a bankrupt society.

Τhe SYRIZA president called prime minister Antonis Samaras and right wing prime minister of Spain Mariano Rajoyunexpected supporters of Merkel and reiterated that the program will not pan out. He attributed the conflict between the IMF and the EU on the Greek debt to the fact that the former does not want to bear the financial costs of the program and Merkel is expending efforts not to assume the political cost of confessing that her choices have failed.

He also repeated that the solution could be provided through the deletion of a large part of Greek debt, the cancellation of austerity policies and the memorandum and the implementation of a development policy.

"If a year ago someone were to address me like you addressed me here tonight, telling me that the next time I would come here it could be as Greece's prime minister, I would have said they were crazy. Yet today it can be heard. Perhaps today you too might be thinking it is impossible to claim the majority because your opponents are strong. But they do not have right on their side, you do. In the end, hope will win because it is stronger than fear," Tsipras concluded amidst loud cheering and clapping.
