We got the 3 years but lost the benefits
The agreement on labour issues that is expected to pass troika’s final approval provides for the freezing of the three-year periods, 1,800 euro compensation cap for older workers and arrangement of working time through collective rather than individual contracts.

Informing the political leaders Labour minister Yannis Vroutsis expressed his satisfaction with the Troika’s approval of the ministry's counterproposals, which will reduce the losses from the painful changes.

Our lenders were pushing until the last minute for the compression of the 1,300-1,500 euro cap on compensation for employees acfive with the same employer
for over 16 years and entitled to a compensation of more than 12 salaries.

Thus, the new scheme with 50% reduction in compensation will apply only to new entrants or the newly hired. The current scale will be maintained, whereby whoever is fired after 16 years of work with the same employer will receive 12 salaries as compensation. Those entitled to more than 12 salaries will receive the rest of their compensation calculated within the 1,800-euro maximum wage cap.

The freeze on the three-year period in order to avoid its elimination was recently agreed upon between Vroutsis and the Troika.

The lenders refused to keep the marriage benefit for those who are paid by the national collective labour agreement, which means a reduction of wages by 58 euros, arguing that the allowance has been removed for the sectoral wages too after the aftereffect.

The modification of the mechanism for setting the minimum wage laid down in memorandum 2, which also provides that the amount will be decided by the government, poses a new problem. As stated in the memorandum, even if the social partners reach an agreement, it will not be required to apply for companies that will not be represented in the negotiation.

This means that employers' organizations will begin to crumble, devaluing the negotiation of the national collective labour agreement, since they will not be obliged to implement the agreement and could require that their workers even be paid at Bulgarian wage rates.
