The burning question of the Troika request for layoffs in the public sector was the focus of the meeting between Administrative Reform minister Antonis Manitakis and the Troika auditors earlier today.
According to information, the aim of the ministry is to eliminate in any way possible 200,000 civil servants by 2015.
The Troika heads at first accepted Manitakis’ proposals, but noted that the negotiation is ongoing and some gray areas are still under discussion. The fields of negotiation are identified as the way the public servants will leave and the timetables that will be followed by the ministry.
However, the layoffs of a number of public servants should be considered as a given, without counting those that will leave through normal retirements.
The employees that will leave their jobs will be those either designated as disloyal, having limited abilities or being absent from their position without justification. The final decision for each employee will be made after the evaluation process that will be undertaken by ASEP. The employees that will leave through redundancy will be about 5,000.
