Unemployment in Greece rose to 23.1% in May 2012, an increase of 0.5% compared with April and 6.3% compared with May 2011, according to Eurostat figures released today in Brussels....

Unemployment in Greece rose to 23.1% in May 2012, an increase of 0.5% compared with April and 6.3% compared with May 2011, according to Eurostat figures released today in Brussels.

This is the second highest rate within the EU, after Spain which comes first with 25.1% (July data), while the lowest rates are in Austria with 4.5%, Netherlands with 5.3%, Germany and Luxembourg with 5.5 %. 

In July 2012 unemployment in the Eurozone reached 11.3% and 10.4% in the EU. 

According to the same data, Greece has the highest unemployment rate in the EU among young people, with 53.8% (May data), 20.3% in men and 26.8% in women.
