Unemployment in Greece reaches new record at 23.1%
According to figures released by the Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), unemployment climbed to a new record high of 23.1% in May 2012, from 16.8% in May 2011 and 22.6% in April 2012.

The unemployed increased by 311,041 compared with May 2011 (+37.2%) and by 34,141 compared with April 2012 (+3.1%), reaching about 1,147,372.
The number of the employed fell by 320,540 since May 2011 (-7.7%) and 593 since April 2012 (-0.02%). It is estimated that they now stand at 3,816,912.
The economically inactive, that is people who are not working or seeking work, rose by 11,170 compared with May 2011 (+0.3%) and decreased by 306 compared to April 2012 (-0.01%), amounting to 3,361,131.
