ND will elect a PG secretary today and a party secretary on Thursday

The meeting of the ND parliamentary group in order to elect a new secretary is scheduled for tomorrow at 12 p.m. It will start with a speech by Antonis Samaras, who will speak about the structural changes to be made and will seek the MPs' input for this effort. The PM expects the members of the party to side with the choices of the government, creating a solid front and giving a bigger boost to the government scheme.

As for the new PG Secretary, Samaras’ choice is Thanassis Bouras, while for the positions of parliamentary representatives he prefers Sophia Voultepsi and Manolis Kefaloyiannis. During the week ND is also expected to hold the elections of chairpersons of parliamentary committees. The names that seem to have locked so far are: Yorgos Vlachos for the Trading Commission, Yorgos Kalantzis for the Commission on Cultural Affairs and Miltiadis Varvitsiotis for the Foreign and Defence Policy Commission. Heads of committees will not only come from members of ND, but from PASOK as well. So the “green” MP Dimitris Kremastinos is expected to take the lead in the Committee on Social Affairs.

On Thursday, ND will also elect a new party secretary, with Nikitas Kaklamanis, Philippos Tavris and "rebel" Nikolopoulos being those who have publicly expressed interest so far, while there may be a surprise candidate from the generation of the 35-year-olds.
