UPD:
In a discussion with reporters after the meeting at the Ministry of Administrative Reform earlier today, the PM expressed his intention to personally undertake the monitoring of administrative reform and evaluation of public administration. He said that the aim is to achieve better results in the service towards citizens, save resources and eliminate bureaucracy.
Within the next few days, he will send letters to all ministries which will emphasize the importance of administrative reform for the economy, businesses and citizens, and will ask ministers to speed up procedures.
Administrative Reform minister Antonis Manitakis said the goal of administrative reform is to reduce government services by 30%, although he said it cannot be quantified in financial terms at present. He added that the ministry is based on the groundwork that has already been done with the collaboration of Greek services with the Task Force, and that in September he will be able to show tangible results.
He stressed that the main goal is to reduce operating expenses arising from the new management model and the merging of services and that there won’t be any layoffs in the public sector, only transfers. He also noted further that the ministry's departments are studying the list of corporations to be merged or eliminated and that there will be more meetings between the relevant bodies and the PM.
- "I anticipate changes in administration," the PM said before entering the meeting
- "the Finance ministry also awaits for administrative reform," Stournaras said
- "our goal is to make public administration more economical," Manitakis said
- "and more meritocratic," Samaras said.
