Upon assuming the presidency of the EU Council today, in a message to
the Cypriot people president Christofias said that their country might
be small in size and population and also divided, but has the will and strength to stand up and be a leader in the European scene.
He characterized this day as an historical one and said that the Cypriot Republic is at the threshold of the realization of a top goal, which is the successful presidency of the European Union.
The Cypriot President cofirmed that Cyprus will work with the EU institutions and its 26 partners towards additional community solidarity, a Europe closer to the common man, in order to respond positively and effectively to his everyday needs.
