Meeting frenzy for the formation of a government
During a short meeting between the President of the Republic, Karolos Papoulias, and PASOK head Evangelos Venizelos, the latter explained his mandate was inconclusive but the former said there are “slivers of hope”.
No official comments were made to the press, but Papoulias spoke of major challenges on the way, beginning with this Sunday’s Ecofin meeting (Spanish banks will top the agenda) and moving on to the next EU Summit as well as the NATO one.
The two men spoke about the governance void in Greece while, according to information, Papoulias will hold private meetings with the political leaders in order to look for fertile ground among them. This could allow them all to participate in a council meeting, most probably on Sunday, with its subject being the country’s still undecided leading scheme.
What is more, the two men spoke about the 435-million euro bond that expires on May 15 and about which there are still discussions going on, concerning the extension of its repayment.
