"Alexis, the country has no time to lose"

During their meeting, which lasted about an hour, Alexis Tsipras asked Evangelos Venizelos to sign a letter to be sent to the Troika.

On his part, Evangelos Venizelos was in favor of Alexis Tsipras assuming the role of acting PM in a government of national unity.

He proposed that the parties involved in this government should be ND, PASOK, SYRIZA and DIMAR, with Mr. Tsipras as PM.

Alternatively, the PASOK leader mentioned that if the SYRIZA president believes that the proposals his party is able to put forth can safely lead the country to a better situation than it is today, he and his party are willing to support him, if the country’s stay in the Eurozone is not threatened.

“The country has no time to lose”, stated Mr. Venizelos, who stressed that setting up a government of national unity will only happen after he receives a mandate from the President.

However, according to reports, in a letter to Barroso, Van Rompuy and Draghi Mr. Tsipras will ask for a new alternative plan for growth, while he will also underline that the measures underway for June cannot be applied after the election results of last Sunday.

Mr. Tsipras, had met with Mr. Kammenos earlier, while afterwards he will meet with the president of New Democracy Antonis Samaras. The SYRIZA Parliamentary Team is to meet at 8pm.

The head of SYRIZA has scheduled a meeting with the President of the Republic for tomorrow at 13.00, apparently to return the mandate if a government is not formed, which is the most probable scenario.
