Thousands of breaking voices are escorting the singer Demetris Mitropanos to his last abode, at the A Cemetery, Athens. People who sang, cried and danced to his songs are paying their respects to the beloved artist who has left his mark on Greek singing culture.

The funeral service began at 2pm
Many of the attendees come from Mitropanos' village, Aghia Moni in Trikala, carrying soil from his home yard in order to throw it inside his grave and let it be his guardian angel on his “trip”.
Mitropanos had several health problems in the past few years and he lost the battle on April 17, after he was rushed to hospital on Holy Thursday. He died of a heart attack as his exhausted body did not make it.
Singer Paschalis Terzis, composer Christos Nicolopoulos and many more colleagues and friends of his are among the big crowd that is bidding him farewell.
He will rest near other great Greeks such as Nikos Xylouris, Marios Ploritis and others.

His family asked that instead of wreaths, the money should go to homeless people and in support of the Reception Centre for the Homeless, KYADA, operating under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens.
