Lifting Dora Bakoyianni's MP immunity requested by Areios Pagos

The one-million-dollar case of Isidoros Kouvelos takes a new judicial turn, as the Attorney General of the Supreme Court sent the request from the prosecutor to lift the immunity of the president of the Democratic Alliance party, Dora Bakoyannis, due to innacurate reporting in the revenue statement.

The request has been forwarded to Parliament by Deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Athanasios Katsirodis.

The case, which concerns the 1 million dollars that Mrs. Bakoyannis' husband and businessman Isidoros Kouvelos transferred to London, was made widely known to the public by the chief prosecutor of the authority for money laundering, P. Nikoloudis, through his statement to the parliamentary Commission of Institutions and Transparency.

It should be noted that Mrs. Bakoyiannis' statement was given to the prosecutor by the Parliament.

The district attorney’s office during its investigation found out that the amount was not declared in the tax statement but could not proceed with any further actions.

Thus, an immediate revocation of Mrs Bakoyiannis’ MP immunity is being requested.

Dora Bakoyianni clarified that “I will not proceed to use my immunity”, in reply to the request of its lifting, and spoke of “a continuation of a setup” which concerns the declaration of her husband’s tax statement.

She also added that “the people understand the aim behind this act the day after Parliament was dissolved”. Finally, the president of the Democratic Alliance party mentioned that “it is clear that the battle we are fighting for a transparent party funding process has bothered many”.
