UPD:
Through his message destined to influence the Greeks who live abroad,
the President of the Hellenic Republic, Karolos Papoulias has called
upon them to choose “the way which will lead to re-establishing progress
and competitiveness for Greece.”
Although some would think Papoulias is pushing Greeks to support the memorandum policies and the upcoming elections, his move is not necessarily a direct intervention.
Nevertheless, his opinions expressed in this official call cannot at the same time be seen as completely irrelevant to the present climate in the country and the possible turmoil that might be caused in the coming weeks between the supporters and the foes of the new memorandum.
“No matter how great the cost is, the present morale of the Greeks dictates the ability of our people to overcome the difficulties of the time and like our history has been teaching us over the years, the Greeks can and finally do win asymmetrical battles”, said the Papoulias in his message, especially written for the upcoming national celebration of Greek Independence Day on March 25th.
Closing his message, the Greek President thanked the expatriates for their support to the financially troubled country, underlining the importance of their help in restoring its image around the world.
