A unique protest took place earlier on Wednesday morning in the city centre of the Greek capital, Athens.

Poets and writers organized their own special and original demonstration due to the World Poetry Day, celebrated on March 21st since 1999.

Poetry, lyrics and similar artistic banners filled the streets of central Athens during a rather different and symbolic mobilization destined to show the treasures within and springing from poetry and art in general.

Participating in the demonstration are 100 publishing houses, foreign universities, Athenian citizens and artistic unions from Greece and abroad.

The participants will stop at major landmarks of the capital such as the National Library and the University Building on Panepistimiou Street, at the same time reciting poems by great Greek poets such as Odysseas Elytis and Constantinos Kavafis.
