As if not a day had passed, as if nothing had changed, the former
Minister of Finance, whose actions are being investigated by the House,
committee continues to provoke the public sentiment…
“I was totally surprised”, stated George Papakonstantinou during a Mega Channel television interview, trying to justify the upwards deficit adjustment.
At the same time, however, head of the PDMA Petros Christodoulou, a close associate of Mr. Papakonstantinou, assured members of the selection committee that the former FinMin could easily have known about the deficit upgrade.
“Through the figures from the Statistical Office, he could have found out. Alas!”, stated Mr. Christodoulou verbatim, referring to Mr. Papakonstantinou.
Yet the former FinMin continues to assert that he has no responsibility concerning the current financial situation.
A noxious feeling is caused by the way that Mr. Papakonstantinou is trying to apologize for his maneuvers, actions and omissions. “The country entered the memorandum not only because of the Finance Minister’s statement that the country is like the Titanic, but through mistakes, omissions and deliberate withholding of data”, claimed the former Finance Minister during the interview on Mega Channel’s morning show.
