The workload for the committee for control on property statements of the
parliament is increased because besides a report they are preparing on
the case of the $1 million of the Kouvelos-Bakoyanni couple, they are processing the initial findings from an investigation carried out by chartered auditors into remittances sent overseas by politicians and their relatives in the 2009-2011 period.
The committee must decide by Monday if Kouvelos must be sent to trial for a false property statement.
However, information they have on their hands so far does not show tax or other violations of the husband of the Democratic Alliance president.
As protothema.gr first reported Friday, the $1 million with which Kouvelos said he bought the ship having sold shares, the price for which he brought to Greece and re-exported again through an account of which his son is a co-holder, was not declared in his property statement.
Besides Kouvelos’ case, the committee is also looking through the famous list of the ministry of Finance, which includes all politicians and their relatives who transferred amounts of more than 100,000 euros abroad during 2009-2011. According to reports, the list contains about 25 names, of whom at least 6 are active MPs and MEPs.
