The decisions about elections will be made when the government completes
its work, stated the PM meaningfully during an ongoing press conference
in Brussels on the occasion of the EU Summit.
This statement is obviously on a different wavelength from the recent reports by Government Spokesman Mr. Pantelis Kapsis on the elections, particularly the references to April. It is noteworthy that this is taking place while the PM is meeting in the Belgian capital, and of course, with the backdrop of the decisions of the Eurogroup for assistance of 58.7 billion to our country.
Mr. Papademos stated that the measures taken will work towards helping the country push past the crisis. He noted that the decisions made in Athens and the Eurogroup will provide development opportunities for the country. “It has been accepted by all countries that they should immediately move forward with measures that will bring growth in the economy”, stated the PM.
He, however, acknowledge that the new program will require short-term sacrifices, adding that “we still have a lot of work to do”.
The PM also mentioned that Europe is giving us a vote of confidence, stressing that they should not be disappointed. “Instead, we must disappoint those who believe that Greece cannot pull through”, he said.
He found that by the middle of next year, perhaps the first signs of growth will be visible.

Moreover, he emphasized that there is no discussion and that the “requirement” for a commissioner in Greece is not acceptable, confirming however that the presence of the Troika will be reinforced.
