They burnt the German flag with the swastika at Syntagma
Widespread clashes have been reported outside and around the parliament building in the early afternoon hours when groups of demonstrators tried to enter it.
Protesters shouted “Step down”, “Democracy here and now”, “Let the people enter the parliament so we can prove what democracy is” and called policemen “German guards”.
Near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier people fought against riot police and vice versa while, according to sources, minor injuries have been reported.
Some demonstrators who were holding the German Nazi flag finally set it on fire, pleased to see the swastika being burnt to ashes.
A short while before the downpour began, police used chemicals to disperse the crowd but as a result of the rain, the demonstration of the two major umbrella unions GSEE and ADEDY opposing further austerity, anti-popular measures the Troika and the government wish to impose, was abruptly brought to an end due to the weather.
