the new coalition government led by Papademos are taking on unexpected
dimensions, resulting in the postponement of the oath for two hours, but
also to incredible pileups between those interested in the new
government posts.
The deadlock led George Papandreou to consultations with Papademos at Maximos Mansion, while ND is applying intense pressure to increase the presence of the party in the new government and Karatzaferis is asking to include almost all of the parliamentary group of his party!
As it appears, Venizelos will remain finmin and vice president in Papademos’ new government. Andreas Loverdos, Diamantopoulou and Michalis Chrysochoidis will remain, too.
Tassos Giannitsis will probably be transferred to the interior ministry with Fofi Genimmata as his deputy minister.
Papandreou has requested that the outgoing foreign minister Stavros Lambrinidis and tourism minister Pavlos Geroulanos, and perhaps George Papakonstantinou, keep their ministries or at least remain in the new government.
A "battle" is expected between the deputy ministers, both because of the reduction of their total number and because members of the previous government who will staff the new cabinet will be significantly fewer. Approximately eight to ten deputy ministers from ND and LAOS are expected to be included in the new government.

ND’s participation
Stavros Dimas is headed to the interior ministry. Dimitris Avramopoulos will probably be the minister of defense. A disagreement has been recorded on the position of vice president to be covered by an ND member. Originally, the post was proposed to Stavros Dimas to contribute to contacts with the European Union as a former Commissioner and one with an overall coordinating role in the new format. But this created problems because of Avramopoulos’ request not to appoint Dimas vice president in order for the latter not to supercede him in the internal party hierarchy in ND. So Dimas went to the foreign affairs ministry but this caused another problem with Lambrinidis, who Papandreou insisted should not to be moved.
Constantine Arvanitopoulos is going to the Education ministry as vice minister. The post of deputy finmin is expected to be filled by Samaras’ consultant, Yiannis Mourmouras.
And probably Petros Alivizatos will take up a spot at the ministry of culture.
LAOS’ participation
Makis Voridis has become a strong candidate for the justice ministry. Candidates for positions of deputy ministers are also Niki Tzavella, Asterios Rondoulis, George Georgiou, Adonis Georgiadis, Thanasis Plevris and Costas Kiltidis.
