Suspense about the selection of the new prime minister
Negotiations between Papandreou and Samaras have turned into a never ending thriller.
UPD:
The Europeans are indirectly but quite clearly taking part in the negotiations between the two parties. The ultimatum issued by Olli Rehn, that our lenders require written commitments here and now from all parties that will participate in the new coalition government that they will implement everything in the agreement, is creating new data.
Wanting to reassure Europeans, Samaras said that "we have national dignity. The implementation of the October 26 decisions has become inevitable". However, Rehn told him that they will accept nothing short of written commitments, arguing that Greece should restore the social contract with its partners.
And although the ND president made it clear that he does not allow anyone to challenge his statements, the Europeans do not seem convinced. It is obvious that since the EU’s ultimatum has been put on the table, Brussels demand to obtain written commitments simultaneously with the formation of the coalition government.
The new spike is being debated at this point in a telephone contact between Papandreou and Samaras. According to information Venizelos and Roumeliotis are also present in the PM’s office in Parliament.
Meanwhile, doubts are being expressed as to whether the person to assume the transitional prime minister's position will finally be Lucas Papademos. This is because the delay and the slow rate at which the negotiations are proceeding, raise questions about whether they will eventually succeed in appointing him as prime minister.
