UPD:
As hinted by French president Nicolas Sarkozy, George Papandreou has
been invited to offer an explanation at the meeting of the 20 most
developed countries of the world tomorrow at Cannes.
As announced by the French presidency, Sarkozy and Merkel will ultimately meet with EU leaders and the IMF tomorrow at 18:30 (Greek time) in Cannes, and then at 21:30 with Papandreou and Venizelos, to discuss "the situation created by the announcement on a referendum in Greece for the euro bailout plan."
This meeting was dubbed a "consultation" meeting and apart from the French president and German chancellor, the Eurogroup president and Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean Claude Juncker, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, the European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso and the IMF general director Christine Lagarde, will also attend.
Earlier, in a statement made outside the Presidential Palace of Champs Elysees, Sarkozy only referred to the Greek problem.
"The Eurozone bailout plan as adopted last week in Brussels is the only way to solve the problem of the Greek debt," was one of the carefully chosen phrases that he used. It was preceded by his meeting with key ministers of François Fillon’s government.
According to Sarkozy, the meeting between him, Merkel and Papandreou on Wednesday night, will be a "discussion on the conditions under which they can maintain the commitments they have already made."
