The Greek debt haircut is yet to be unveiled
Their conviction that a lasting and final solution for Greece will be found, was expressed by the leaders of Germany and France after their meeting in Berlin
A diplomatic response to the rumors circulating in the last few hours of a decision on a new and perhaps distant large haircut of the Greek debt was given by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was the one stating that regarding Greece and the answers to be given to its financial crisis, Europeans will await the Troika’s decision. The French President provided an eloquent preview of the summit on the 17th and 18th of October, where the final solution to the Greek problem is expected to be given, stating: “We want the EFSF to be effective and functional. An overall, sustainable and rapid response will be given at the end of the month."
The German Chancellor agreed with him and stated: “We cannot go into detail. You will see at the end of the month that all our decisions will operate smoothly”.
It is also noteworthy that both leaders agreed on the burning issue of the direct recapitalization of European banks.
