UPD:
Large losses of up to 40% on the remaining income of public sector
employees are brought on by the new payroll stemming from the bill of
law of the Ministries of Finance and Administrative Reform. The final texts will be tabled in Parliament today, following last night’s “thriller” on who will lose out on their money and what the amount will be.
The reform’s major victims will be approximately 100.000 employees of secondary and compulsory education, who had been receiving high bonuses of up to 50% of their salary.
According to reports, the so far unfinished battle was fought over who will be excluded from the large cuts, completely or partially, as well as over employees with decades’ of special benefits, such as employees of certain Ministries (such as Transport, Finance etc.), qualified independent authorities’ staff etc.
It all points to great reductions for all, thus preserving only the lowest-paid individuals and… their managers.
For the former, the new salary scale foresees a slight increase of 5 to 80 euros per month, since basic salaries are being increased by 7%-20%, after the abolition of special benefits.
For the latter, there is a salary cap of around 2700 to 3000 euros per month, including the special responsibility allowance of up to 250 euro for department heads, 400 euros for managers, and 700 euros for general managers.
The total number of employees in the public sector will be classified in six levels of wages, while climbing up the ladder of the hierarchy will now be harder for everyone.
