The taxcard is coming
From tomorrow Monday, October 3, taxpayers will be able to get the "Receipts Card" from the desks of the banks.

This is of course the famous taxcard that aims to relieve taxpayers from collecting receipts and the tax offices from storing them.

Its use is optional and those interested can get it to record the receipts from their purchases and thus build their tax-free income limit. Note that this has now dropped to 5.000 euros and taxpayers are required to collect receipts for 25% of their income and up to 15.000 euros.

Therefore, the use of the taxcard aims to gather together all the expenses of a taxpayer and help with their emailing to the tax authorities.

The “Receipts Card”, as it was formerly known, looks like an ordinary credit card, but it will not bear the personal information of the holder. After its purchase, the holder will activate it via SMS to the General Secretariat for Information Systems on 54053. In the message they will have to write their Tax Identification Number (AFM), press space and then complete the 10-digit card code. Alternatively they can activate it online at http://link.minfin.gr/karta. This process ensures the confidentiality of the holder’s data.

The finance ministry has set up a special customer help center that will answer all relevant questions from taxpayers. The number is 211-0007111.

How the taxcard will work

In every transaction, shoppers will swipe the taxcard in the special POS machines and record the transaction. The data will then be sent to GSIS. Neither shopkeepers nor the banks involved will have access to holder data, but the latter will be able to monitor the course of their transactions on the Internet. That's because at regular intervals the GSIS will insert the data for each taxcard in each taxpayer’s personal section, which will be called a "tax-free account". Meanwhile, there will be direct access to information about the turnover of businesses and the tax owed by each professional.

The taxcard can be purchased at these banks:

National, Eurobank, Alpha, Piraeus, Agricultural, T-bank, Post Bank, General, Marfin, Attica, Emporiki, Millenium, Bank of Cyprus, Proton, Probank, FBB, Hellenic Panhellenic, Achaiki Cooperative Bank, Cooperative Bank of Western Macedonia, Cooperative Bank of Dodecanese, Cooperative Bank of Epirus, Cooperative Bank of Karditsa, Cooperative Bank of Lesvos-Limnos, Cooperative Bank of Crete, Cooperative Bank of Serres, Cooperative Bank of Chania, and from Hellas Pay Payment Services S.A. and N. Petrakopoulos Ltd.
