Once again, privatizations don’t earn us the desired amount

The government is hoping to earn up to 1.5 billion euros from the slashed wages and privileges in the public sector, and this could perhaps be the solution to covering the financial hole caused by the poor earnings from privatizations.

“Proto Thema” newspaper has revealed that the goal of the 5-billion-euro profit, which should have been reached via privatizations, is long forgotten and apparently…unreachable. On Wednesday, the ministerial committee responsible for the privatizations is going to decide how many more funds of public corporations will be included in the plan.

The Fund that was supposed to begin handling the privatization deals already since 2007 has been left completely under-utilized and undeveloped. Thus now, during a dire economic time, the Troika is pushing for swift actions, otherwise the 6^th installment might not be as secure as the FinMin Evangelos Venizelos has said.

Venizelos’ firm position supports that the privatization plan remains on track with OPAP and the International Airport of Athens as part of them.
