"Heads are rolling" in Cyprus

In his statement, the spokesman of the Democratic Party said that the ministers of the Democratic Party, Christos Patsalides and Antonis Paschalidis, tendered their resignation to the President of the Republic Demetris Christofias, ''to facilitate him in his effort towards decisions and initiatives that we all expect''.

We remind our readers that foreign affairs minister Markos Kyprianou tendered his resignation during the previous week.

The DIKO spokesman said "we note with great concern and anguish that conditions are deteriorating dramatically. Time is running out. Today, now, we should undertake important, decisive initiatives and make determined efforts to prevent the worst. Worse situations might be ahead of us if we do not act immediately."

Already on Wednesday afternoon, four members of the Cyprus Fire Service were suspended during the investigation for the explosion in Mari. According to the Cypriot police, the data obtained may point to criminal or disciplinary offenses.

In fact, the country's Attorney General might proceed to issuing warrants of arrest both for executives of the National Guard and persons connected with the explosion that killed 13 people and caused enormous damage to the economy of the island.

The actions of some potential arrestees after the deadly explosion are also being investigated. That is, whether these persons took action aimed at falsifying documents which could have damaged them.
