The Troika in Athens, enquiring about the 4,5 billion euros

The Troika is back in Athens and any resident euphoria in economic and market circles, caused by the recent summit, is apparently… evaporating.

The major problem that will be addressed by those in charge of the Treasury, who will be the first to sit at the table with the representatives of the European Union, the European Central Bank and the IMF, is certainly the 4,5 billion euros, which is the staggering amount that the execution of the budget has fallen short of during the first half of this year.

It is another… legacy of Giorgos Papakonstantinou to Evangelos Venizelos, who returned from USA and is now beginning to experience again the… agony of audits on the state of the economy and the implementation of the mid-term program.

According to relevant information, the audits are deemed crucial in light of the decisions that must be made by the IMF on its participation in the new aid agreement to our country, reached by the Eurozone summit last week.

The audits will focus on state revenue progress across the public sector, including funds, on state budget costs and insurance funds and on the failures in relation to the mid-term program estimates that the ministries will attempt to justify.
