"We seek a strategic alliance for DEI"

The privatization of DEI will take place through a strategic alliance, which will be beneficial in terms of know-how within the state’s power company, in order to allow it to meet the challenges of the global energy market.

This clarification was made on Friday morning within Parliament, by Prime Minister George Papandreou, in response to a question from the President of LAOS, Giorgos Karatzaferis.

Mr. Papandreou essentially pointed to the logic of OTE, of which a strategic ally is Desutsche Telekon, but stressed that the way of implementation will be completely different since, in essence, OTE is now in foreign hands.

“We will not abandon government control”, stated the prime minister, since 34% of the company will be under state control.

He stressed that “we will not hurry, we will not rush into selling a percentage”, adding that the appropriate juncture in terms of market timing will be chosen carefully.
