Retired MPs are seeking 80mil from the state!

Retired MPs are seeking the unrealistic (especially for this time) amount of 80mil euros from the state.

Florentia Kaldi, President of the 2nd part of the Court of Auditors, who attended the parliamentary meeting of the Committee of Institutions and Transparency, said: “I have about 800 to 850 cases of retired MPs who are requesting their retroactive fees. There are three categories; those who are citing legislation that applied to judges between 2003-2007, others that did not enter it and are now seeking their fees with all the increases, and the third category, is from 2008 onwards”.

The claims of retired MPs – which reportedly may even exceed the 80 million mark – are based on a law which mandates that their salaries follow the increases Supreme Court judge salaries, something that had not happened up to now. However, Kaldi added that "2 decisions have come out. One is Angelikousis’ and the other is older. We have seen this decision before and wanted to see if active MPs have been receiving the increases from 2008 onwards. And this is why they came back to parliament”.

It should be noted that the active MPs unanimously agreed not to put in requests for any increases.
