Papakostantinou attacked from all sides

The internal attacks have been unceasing since yesterday for Minister of Finance Mr.Giorgos Papakostantinou. This time eight PASOK MPs are condemning the decision of Mr. Papakostantinou to give out another 30 billion euros as collateral to the banks.

Specifically, MPs Mr.Kouroublis, Mr.Arvanitidis, Mr.Grigorakos, Mr.Michos, Mr.Tolkas, Mr.Michelogiannakis, Mrs. Giannakopoulou and Mrs. Kefalidou have raised questions in Parliament for Mr.Papakostantinou in which, among many things, they state “any citizen realizes that there is a necessity for strong banks but not banks that harm the economy. Not banks that work as a state within a state. This thing in our country has reached an intolerable limit”.

They note that the banks profit with the tolerance of the state, mentioning that «they save the money they receive from the government for a time of need, their need, and this means that the market gets even drier». The eight MPs conclude their public question to the Minister by saying that “if the state gives more money to the banks, especially private ones, in two years, with money and bonds reaching 100 billion euros, what is the aim of these banks but to become richer?”

This decision by Mr.Papakostantinou has also caused mayhem in the cabinet meeting. In particular, many ministers asked Mr.Papakostantinou for further explanations for the reason that such a proposal will suffocate the market, which will lead to greater unemployment and an economic downturn.
