We honor the 190 years since the revolution, but how will we be in 10 years from now?
We honor the 190 years since the revolution, but how will we be in 10 years from now?
Do we still have the courage to honor THEM? Or is it maybe audacity to honor them when we have brought the country to its present state?
Do we still have the courage to honor THEM? Or is it maybe audacity to honor them when we have brought the country to its present state?
The interesting part for me is whether we will have the courage or the audacity to honor THEM in the celebration of the 200 years since the revolution, in 2021.
And when I say honor THEM, I mean properly honor them. Because parades will take place, events will be held, speeches will be delivered. But how often do these things matter?
However, if all is well in 2021, we will have yet another important reason for celebration: the completion of the repayment of the loan we have received from the Troika!

That is, if we don’t get another extension and, of course, if we manage to repay the loan by then…
Then, I feel that the actions of the revolution will regain their meaning; the lifting of the sacred banner, the speeches of the Old Man of Morea, the exploits of Karaiskakis, of Androutsos, of Botsaris, of Nikitaras, of Diakos, of Papaflessas, of Miaoulis, of Manto, of Bouboulina, of Ipsilantis, of Xanthos, of Skoufas and of Anagnostopoulos.
In the haze we live in today – the secret school of an age we wish to forget – it feels as if these mythical forms are waiting for the approval of Strauss-Kahn, Rehn and Juncker to lead the way once again with the status in which we have imagined them and which they deserve.
And not as we have been looking at them lately… but instead, to look again at their fiery eyes, and not as beggars looking at saints when seeking redemption, and neither with the bitterness that the poet’s verse brings to our hearts…
«Past glories, making you cry as recount them».
Until next year fellow Greeks!
