Giorgos will not make any decision before March 25th

PM Giorgos Papandreou will make no moves towards a reshuffle of the composition of the government, or even elections, before the European summit on March 25th. This summit will sanction the decisions taken by Eurozone leaders, which means that the Greek effort is ongoing.

According to sources, either Papandreou has made his mind up or is considering suggestions from his colleagues about major political interventions. He will not disturb this process with other discussions and initiatives, as he seeks to focus the public’s attention mainly on the European effort.

“He will make changes”

In any case, his call to stop the reshuffle and elections scenarios during the cabinet meeting did not convince many members of the party. Most of them are certain that Papandreou will make significant changes to the structure and the composition of the government, in order to intervene in the problematic sectors.

However, they think it is quite justified for the PM to want to make any changes after March 25th, when the round of efforts for better terms will close. These efforts include the fight against bankruptcy.  

Another point of focus for governmental agents is the intensification of political opposition and the description of specific political dilemmas by the PM, which escalate the political conflict and lead it away from a consensus between the political forces. In essence, he unfolded the canvas upon which he will develop his party’s political and communicational counterattack.

He characteristically mentioned that «we either move on at a steady pace, making use of any positive progress, with Greece changing and moving forward, or we ignore these opportunities and move backwards. This way, Greece goes back to practices of the past, unruly, without viable growth, without keeping the truth in mind, and winds up again, pretty soon, at the same dead-end».
