OPAP and the internet are the winners in gambling

Protothema.gr has been fully vindicated regarding the gambling bill, since one of the basic changes presented today by the cabinet was the change of taxation tax for internet companies.

More specifically, as protothema.gr reported in the morning, the government will tax the gross profits of internet companies by 30% and the profits of players by 10%.

The winners, apart from the internet companies, will be OPAP and ODIE. OPAP, for example, has a discretionary right to acquire a license for Videolottery (a new type of slot machines).

The internet permits that will be issued will range between 15-50 and, according to sources, besides foreign companies, casino companies will operate them as well.

Another change was the license for slots, as eventually, there will be 10 permits (one of them as an optional right for OPAP), which will apply only to 30,000 machines.

It is estimated that the State will receive around 500 million euros from the sale of licenses, but the amount is considered very ambitious, since after the voting of the bill two more months are needed for approval by the European Commission, which in turn will send it to all its member states.

Maximum amount for the slot machines

The maximum amount that one will be able to play is 2 euros, and an individual player card will be introduced, which will determine the amounts that one will be able to play, their age, etc.

The bill is headed for the parliament.
