AAthens streets have been jammed with traffic today due to the 24hr
strike by the workers in the metro and ISAP, who are protesting against
the bill for the restructuring of urban transport issued by the
Parliament with minor modifications.
Since early this morning, metro workers have seized the depot in Sepolia in a show of protest and in order to safeguard their 24hr strike.
Also, the workers at urban buses are on a 5-hour work stoppage from 11am to 4pm in order to attend their general meeting.
The same setting is expected tomorrow as the metro workers have decided on a new 24hr-strike.
On Saturday, however, at the general meeting of OASA it was decided for the workers to strike on Tuesday and Wednesday to express thus their opposition to the new bill in which it is provided that the obligatory transfers exclude those who are eligible for pension in 2011, while priority is given to those in detachment outside OASA. The term “termination of SSE” was changed to «replacement».
From Tuesday, February 1 there will be new and increased prices – up to 80% – in urban transport tickets. OASA announced that older tickets can be used until Monday, February 14. From February 15 until April 1, older tickets will be exchanged for new ones at the OASA offices, Metsovou 25, and the metro stations in Syntagma and Panepistimio.
