Law school is closed due to immigrants!
The Athens Law School will remain closed for a week due to the crisis and commotion caused by immigrants that have occupied the building by force. About 300 people are asking for political protection and came from Chania where they arrived within the previous week.

According to the administration, the immigrants aided by the Group for Immigrant Protection and some students, came into the School by the entrance on Sina street. Violating a door they went over to the old building in Solonos street, which is being renovated for the needs of the university.

Their request is “legalization of all immigrants (male & female) and equal political and social rights and obligations as Greek workers (male & female)” and now they intend to launch a hunger strike.

Furor has erupted from this move in the university community, which appears divided.

PASP and DAP have announced their opposition to the occupation and accuse members of AR.EN. for its organization.

PASP accuses the youth of Synaspismos for exploitation of solidarity with terms of micro-partisan expediency and denounces that it provocatively neglected “the decision of the Dean of Law School that overruled the said request last week”. Although they express their solidarity they say that 250 immigrants ask for legalization without conditions.

DAP is accusing “AR.EN. members and non-university groups backed by Synaspismos” that “they invaded the new building, broke down the intermediate doors and occupied the Solonos building placing mattresses and other things”.

On the political level, ND MP Thanasis Nakos, placing a question in parliament said that “our country is an unguarded vineyard where everyone does as they please”. LA.OS. representative Kostas Aivaliotis said “give courage to the peasant and he will jump on your bed… What else is there? The protectors of all these must understand they already have created a big problem for our country”.

KKE and SYRIZA on their side did not make any announcements while the president of Democratic Alliance Dora Bakogianni said that “once more the government stagnated and hid behind its responsibilities. Finally, it must assume them and act immediately to restore the normal running of the School”.
