The pharmacists could not find common ground with Health Minister Mr. Loverdos, during their Friday morning meeting, on the matter of deregulating the pharmacist profession.
The pharmacists are refusing to run their shops on Monday and Wednesday, and have also declared that they will stop selling medicine to the insured public, if the insurance organizations do not immediately pay the amounts owed.
Resisting the Health Minister's proposed measures, the Piraeus Pharmaceutical Association decided to not open their pharmacies on Monday the 17th and Tuesday 18th of January.
In its statement, the association underlines that the extension of working hours and the reduction in profit will lead small to medium-sized stores to bankruptcy and will hurt the pharmacist profession in general.
